Charges filed in trucker’s death

A Tennessee-based truck driver has been charged in the death of fellow truck driver Eduardo Gondarilla.

Gondarilla, of Los Angeles, was putting snow chains on his truck near the Vail Pass in Colorado on a snowy day last month, when he was struck by another truck.

The second truck was driven by Jerry Lee Dotson of Tennessee. He has been charged with careless driving resulting in death, which is a Class 1 misdemeanor in Colorado.

Dotson told authorities that his truck slid off the slushy road and he hit the other man by accident.

“He (Dotson) was completely cooperative,” Sgt. Craig Bettis, a detective with the Vail Police Department, told the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel. “He was a commercial truck driver, too, and just slid off the road. It was completely an accident, but unfortunately it resulted in a death.”

If convicted, Dotson could face up to one year in jail and as much as a $1,000 fine. Police said Dotson was issued a summons to appear in court, but has not been arrested.
