Here’s a heads-up for truckers who need to sign up for the Unified Carrier Registration system but live in a state that doesn’t participate in the program.
If you’ve chosen to apply for UCR registration in Alabama – which is participating – beware of a notice you may receive by mail.
OOIDA has received several complaints from truckers who received letters from the Alabama Public Service Commission that made it appear they owed $100 to the state.
A commission spokesperson said the letters are just “informational,” and apply only to intrastate truckers, not interstate haulers.
OOIDA business services agent Scott O’Dell told “Land Line Now” on XM Satellite Radio that if you’ve sent in your UCR payment and paperwork, you should not owe additional UCR payments at this time.
However, O’Dell said if you pay online and use a credit card, there is a fee for the convenience.
