The Massachusetts Turnpike Authority Board of Directors voted 3-2 this week to maintain a scheduled toll increase to take effect Jan. 1, 2008.
Tolls for heavy trucks will increase 25 cents per axle at the Allston-Brighton and Weston interchanges and 50 cents per axle at the Sumner and Ted Williams tunnels. A five-axle truck, for example, now pays $7.50 in the tunnels but will pay $10 after Jan. 1.
The two dissenting votes came from board members who wanted to discount tolls for MetroWest pass holders. MetroWest is similar to other transponder-based methods of automatic toll collection.
On Oct. 4, the board voted in favor of preliminary approval to the scheduled toll increase and held five public hearings as required by law.
The vote on Monday, Oct. 29, made the increases official.
