Watkins Shepard snags state grant to train drivers

The Montana Department of Commerce has awarded $315,000 to Watkins Shepard Trucking Inc., Missoula, MT, in primary sector Workforce Training Grants.

Watkins Shepard Trucking has a nationwide network of terminals at 19 locations, including Missoula, Billings and its corporate headquarters in Helena. The $315,000 provided by the Workforce Training Grants will be used to train 63 new truck drivers during the next two years.

According to the Great Falls Tribune, Montana’s 2007 Legislature increased funding for Workforce Training Grants from $1.4 million annually to almost $4 million a year. The program is designed to help new businesses and those looking to expand.
