New Hampshire plans ahead for oversized load

| Monday, October 22, 2007

Officials in New Hampshire are putting in a lot more time on planning a truck’s route than the typical trip requires.

In a few weeks, an electrical transformer that weighs more than 600,000 pounds will travel 43 miles across the state – at speeds of about 2 mph.

A Mack truck will pull two special trailers supported by 48 wheels each, with the Korean-made transformer on top.

The New Hampshire Public Service Company will be getting the transformer.

Company spokesman Chuck Christensen told “Land Line Now” on XM Satellite Radio that the permitted load will travel at night with a number of escorts, at times going the wrong way on one-way roads to avoid obstructions.
