International debuts new ‘cold plate’ reefer technology

International has introduced a new alternative to reefers as a way to keep food cold.

In a press release, the company says its “cold plate refrigeration” can keep food cold for 16 to 20 hours, can save operators $6,000, and doesn’t have to be plugged in overnight like previous versions.

The system consists of coated steel plates that contain tubing that’s filled with a frozen salt solution.
