Interstate 70 tunnel reopens in Colorado

Truckers who haul on Interstate 70 in western Colorado can once again go through the eastbound side of the Hanging Lake Tunnel east of Glenwood Springs.

One lane of eastbound traffic was reopened early Wednesday morning, Oct. 3, according to a spokesman from the Colorado Department of Transportation.

The two-lane tunnel was closed in March because of a 70-foot-long crack in the ceiling. Two-way traffic was moved to the westbound tunnel.

The two tunnels typically carry more that 16,000 vehicles a day.
