Overweight trucker wins new adoption hearing

Trucker Gary Stocklaufer will get his day in court after all.

Stocklaufer is the 500-pound driver from Independence, MO, who recently underwent gastric bypass surgery to lose weight, hoping that it would help his wife and him win custody of a relative’s baby that they’re trying to adopt.

Stocklaufer told “Land Line Now” on XM Satellite Radio that the court denied their application for adoption because of his weight, deeming him unfit for parenthood.

Then, the court denied the couple’s request for a re-hearing.

But according to KMBC-TV in Kansas City, MO, the court has now had a change of heart, and scheduled a hearing in late November.

The Stocklaufers already have a 7-year-old adopted son.
