EZ Tag traffic on the Harris County, TX, toll road system is down following a 25-cent toll increase that went into effect the day after Labor Day.
The Houston Chronicle reports that, while officials blamed the dip on residents extending their Labor Day weekends an extra day, they did concede that the toll increase could be a factor as well.
Patti Evans, spokeswoman for the Harris County Toll Road Authority, told the Chronicle they won’t know for sure if the toll increase has affected traffic until more time goes by.
EZ Tag traffic on the toll roads was down nearly 7 percent Tuesday morning, compared with traffic a week earlier. That’s a drop of nearly 20,000 motorists during rush hour.
Overall traffic numbers for the day were not yet available.
