Getting around in Minneapolis has been difficult, to say the least, since the bridge collapse on Interstate 35 earlier this month.
But this weekend, it’s going to get worse, as the Minnesota Department of Transportation prepares to close one lane of Minnesota Highway 280 for improvements.
Highway 280 has been one of the principal backup routes used for traffic diverted from I-35. In a statement, the DOT said the improvements are being made to accommodate the additional traffic.
The lane closure is expected to last from Friday until 5 a.m. on Monday.
In addition, Interstate 94 between Highway 280 and I-35 will be closed this weekend so crews can add an additional lane in each direction. That Interstate will be closed from 10 p.m. Friday and won’t reopen until 5 a.m. on August 20.
