Republicans seek information on New Jersey toll plans

Republicans in New Jersey would like to know exactly what Gov. Jon Corzine has in mind for the New Jersey Turnpike.

But the governor isn’t talking.

A group of Republican lawmakers filed an Open Public Record Act request seeking information connected with the turnpike – including state solicitations for vendors, contracts, projected toll increases or any financial strategy backed by toll revenue.

To date, they have received nothing.

According to The Express Times, a spokesman for the governor’s office said the response was too “open-ended” to adequately respond to because it simply asked for too many documents.

An offer was made to allow the Republicans to examine some of the information available and refine their request.

The Republicans said that wasn’t good enough, and called the lack of information from the governor “deeply disturbing.”
