A trucker whose rig caught fire on Interstate 80 in Sacramento is crediting his dog, Challa, with alerting him to the danger.
According to media reports, Frank Barker saw his brake warning light come on Thursday, July 19, but didn’t notice smoke billowing from his brakes until Challa raised her paw.
Barker says the raised paw is Challa’s way of signaling distress – and that that’s when Barker looked in the mirror and saw smoke.
He pulled over, and he and Challa jumped out just as the fire really got going.
His tractor survived, but a trailer full of bulk cheese was heavily damaged.
