The stockholders of Smithway Motor Xpress have approved the company’s sale to Western Express for about $90 million.

Both companies are truckload operations and run both vans and flatbeds, but Smithway has focused primarily on flatbeds.

Smithway is headquartered in Fort Dodge, IA, while Western Express is in Nashville.

The sale is expected to increase Western Express’s fleet from 1,600 tractors to more than 2,600.
