Toll roads in China spawn crafty motorists

If you think the proliferation of toll roads in the U.S. and Canada is scary, consider what motorists are facing in China.

According to The New York Times, the Chinese are building more toll roads than any other country – about 25,000 miles’ worth in the past 15 years, to be exact.

And, according to the Times, Chinese drivers will do almost anything to try and beat the system.

Many have put bogus toll-exempt military license plates on their cars. One man even outfitted his vehicle to look like an ambulance – complete with flashing lights – and raced through a toll booth, only to be arrested by police a short time later.
