The PierPass off-peak program at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach has diverted more than 5 million truck trips from peak daytime hours to nights and weekends in the past two years.

According to a press release, the diversion program has significantly reduced congestion and pollution from idling trucks.

The off-peak program charges cargo owners more money to move their freight on weekdays than during off-peak hours.
