Indiana Toll Road joins E-ZPass system

| Tuesday, March 20, 2007

The private operator of the Indiana Toll Road will use E-ZPass for its electronic tolling collection system, which is scheduled to be implemented in the fall of 2007.

ITR Concession Co., a consortium of the Spanish company Cintra and the Australian company Macquarie Infrastructure Group, leased the Toll Road from the state of Indiana for $3.85 billion in 2006. The lease is for 75 years and allows the foreign consortium to keep the toll revenue.

Recently, ITR officials announced they will use the E-ZPass system for the Toll Road's cashless toll collection program. E-ZPass is currently used by 22 state toll and turnpike authorities, mainly in the northeast part of the country.

ITR will be the first private operator authorized to be part of the E-ZPass network.
