About 40 logging truckers parked their rigs on the grounds
of the Washington state capitol in Olympia on Wednesday, March 7, to lobby
their elected representatives.
According to the Longview
Daily News, the truckers are upset that legislation that could have
improved their earnings died in committee.
The Northwest Log Truckers Cooperative is seeking
legislation that would allow state regulators to set rates based on prevailing
wages. The truckers argue that they have no leverage in negotiating rates with
the timber companies they haul for, and that their rates haven't kept up with
inflation.
