Florida lawmaker proposes six-year trucker training program

A Florida state senator has proposed legislation that would require student truck drivers to complete a six-year training course.

Sen. Victor Crist, R-Tampa, told local media that the training would include two years behind the wheel.

Crist is the same senator who recently introduced a bill that would outlaw retread tires on trucks in the state of Florida.

However, Crist told "Land Line Now" on XM Satellite Radio that he offered the retread bill just to spark a discussion with the trucking industry, and that he doesn't seriously expect the measure to become law.
