Bridge demolition in Maryland to cause lane closings, detour

| Friday, January 19, 2007

The demolition of the old Maryland 210 overpass is scheduled for this weekend, with work set to begin Friday night, Jan. 19.

Traffic will be disrupted on the outer loop of the Capital Beltway throughout the weekend. Northbound lanes will be closed from 11 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday, and 11 p.m. Saturday to 8 a.m. Sunday. On Sunday, the lanes will be closed at 10 p.m. and reopen at 5 a.m. Monday.

The ramp from southbound Interstate 295 to Interstate 95 North will also be closed, according to a media advisory updating the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Project.

Northbound I-95 traffic will be detoured onto the Maryland 210 South exit, to the Oxon Hill Road at the East/Maryland 210 North exit, right onto Oxon Hill Road heading east, and finally, left to return to I-95 North.

An alternate route has been designated for northbound I-95 traffic - U.S. 301 or I-495 North to the Inner Loop toward the American Legion Bridge. Signs will be posted.

The following weekend, Jan. 26, 27 and 28, at similar hours, the southbound set of lanes of I-95 and I-495 will be closed.

When that happens, southbound traffic will be detoured at the Maryland 210 exit to return to I-95.
