Sentencing phase resumes in Texas trailer deaths trial

| Wednesday, January 03, 2007

Jurors in Texas are now deliberating the fate of former trucker Tyrone Williams.

Williams has been convicted of 58 counts in the deaths of 19 illegal immigrants he was smuggling in his trailer.

The Houston Chronicle reports that earlier this week, jurors heard emotional testimony from relatives of those who died in the truck. That testimony was part of the penalty phase of the trial.

The sentencing phase of the case recently resumed after a month-long break caused by the holidays and illness on the part of an attorney.
