The Canadian province of Manitoba will soon permit
20-percent longer trucks on certain highways.
The provincial government will allow an additional hitch of
a 6.5-meter trailer, which is about 21.3 feet, behind a conventional 53-foot
trailer on a 750-kilometer (466-mile) stretch of Highway 6 between Winnipeg and Thompson.
Maximum gross vehicle weights will not change, according to
the Winnipeg Free Press.
The government and large motor carriers are touting the
measure as a way for shippers to save money.
