DaimlerChrysler predicts decline in its truck sales

| 11/17/2006

The company that makes Freightliner and Western Star trucks thinks sales of its heavy trucks are going to plunge by almost 40 percent next year.

According to Bloomberg, DaimlerChrysler AG expects its sales to bottom out in 2007 in the spring and summer months by as much as 39 percent.

A number of truck manufacturers have already announced layoffs in anticipation of slow truck sales, which many believe will occur because of a pre-buy of 2006 model-year trucks before the lower-polluting, higher-priced '07 models become the norm.
