Former trucker Tyrone Williams may have torpedoed his own
defense Thursday, Nov. 9, during his retrial in a Houston courtroom.
Williams faces a possible death penalty in connection with a
botched smuggling attempt in which 19 illegal immigrants died in the overheated
trailer of his truck.
On Thursday - against the advice of his own lawyer -
Williams insisted that instead of the jurors simply seeing pictures of the
dead, that relatives of the victims be called into the courtroom to personally
identify their loved ones in the photos.
One courtroom observer told the Houston Chronicle
that Williams' decision is "suicidal."
