Wisconsin college teaches English to truckers

To address a so-called truck driver shortage, a college in Appleton, WI, is teaming up with a local company that does consulting for the trucking industry to teach English to would-be truck drivers.

The Fox Valley Technical College, working with J.J. Keller & Associates, will offer the four- to 12-week online course to about eight or 10 students at a time.

Teacher Heidi Schmitt told "Land Line Now" on XM Satellite Radio that applicants need to speak some English when they enroll. She said the students will learn words and phrases that are specific to the trucking industry - like how to pass a CDL test or read pertinent regulations.
