Survivor testifies in Texas smuggling trial

A survivor testified Wednesday in the Houston retrial of former trucker Tyrone Williams, who faces a possible death penalty.

The Houston Chronicle reports that Maria Reyes' husband paid $1,500 to ensure that she'd be able to ride in the sleeper berth of a truck that was smuggling an estimated 100 illegal immigrants into the U.S.

Instead, Reyes testified that some men picked her up by her feet and her hair and threw her into the back of the trailer - where, an hour later, a 5-year-old boy died in her arms.

Nineteen immigrants died in the trailer from heat or suffocation after Williams allegedly abandoned the rig in a parking lot.
