Class 8 truck sales remain high for September

Class 8 truck sales continued to be brisk in September, with overall sales up nearly 8.5 percent compared with September 2005, according to industry analysts.

Some industry sources say the strong sales were generated mainly by the growing U.S. economy's need for more trucks.

But according to Reuters, there has been an apparent rush by truckers to buy new tractors before the more environmentally friendly - but more costly - '07 models are rolled out.

Paccar reported today that its third quarter profits rose by 32 percent on strong sales of Kenworths and Peterbilts.
