| Thursday, October 05, 2006

An estimated 14,000 United Steel Workers union employees at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. went on strike Thursday, Oct. 5.

According to The Associated Press, contract talks broke down over the issues of plant closures in Texas and Alabama, and retirement health care benefits.

Company officials said they plan to keep Goodyear plants open in 10 states and take care of customers, but didn’t say how they plan to accomplish those goals.

Goodyear is the nation’s largest tire maker and a major supplier to the trucking industry.
