The U.S. Senate on Saturday confirmed Mary Peters as Secretary of Transportation.
Peters was head of the Federal Highway Administration for more than three years. Before that, she served as the director of the Arizona Department of Transportation.
Peters has said publicly that she is an advocate of using tolls and highway privatization to build and maintain highways. During testimony, she said her top priority will be reducing congestion on highways and at airports.
The 57-year-old Peters succeeds Norman Mineta, who served for six years in the position.
