Rail/truck hub moving forward despite objections

Burlington Northern-Santa Fe said it expects to announce a partner who’ll help build what may become a $1 billion rail and truck hub off of Interstate 35 south of Kansas City.

A spokesman for the railroad also told The Kansas City Star that BNSF will proceed with the project regardless of whether local voters approve an annexation the company is hoping for.

Local officials say the intermodal facility would generate about 2,000 truck trips a day at first, and would increase to as many as 10,000 a day in 20 years.
