Tropical Storm Ernesto regrouping for South Carolina landfall

| Thursday, August 31, 2006

Tropical Storm Ernesto, which gathered strength over the Atlantic Ocean during the daytime Thursday, is expected to move back ashore on the South Carolina coast Thursday evening.

According to the National Weather Service, the storm’s winds had strengthened to 70 miles per hour at midday. A hurricane warning remained in effect for the Carolinas late Thursday afternoon.

Residents of the Carolinas were bracing for the possibility of heavy rains and flooding. And, on the off-chance that Ernesto could strengthen dramatically, a hurricane watch is in effect for coastal areas of the Carolinas.
