Major traffic changes will continue in Alexandria, VA, this weekend,
when the right-turn ramp from Route 1 North to Interstate 95 South/Beltway
Inner Loop closes on Saturday as part of the ongoing Woodrow Wilson Bridge project.
The construction will require drivers to use a signalized left-turn
lane to access a new temporary ramp. According to a press release from project
officials, motorists should expect alternating lane closures on both directions
of Route 1 near the Capital Beltway this Saturday between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Officials said the closure of the right-turn ramp is necessary in order
to work on the Route 1 overpass that will span the future wider Beltway. When
finished, the Route 1 overpass will provide six lanes of travel, as compared
with four lanes currently.
Upon completion of the overall Route 1 interchange, currently scheduled
for late 2008 or early 2009, northbound Route 1 traffic will use a ramp to
merge onto the Inner Loop.
