Tropical Storm Chris not expected to reach hurricane status

Tropical Storm Chris has weakened and is no longer expected to become a hurricane, forecasters at the National Hurricane Center said Thursday morning.

Storm advisories issued early Thursday morning indicated that the storm was “weakening in a hurry,” and several storm watches were downgraded or dropped.

Residents and companies in and around the storm’s predicted path were taking it seriously. The financial publication Bloomberg reported some companies were putting plans into place in case they needed to evacuate their employees from oil and gas drilling platforms in the Gulf of Mexico.
