Chew the fat at annual Walcott jamboree

| Thursday, July 13, 2006

If your rig is big and you’re on the lookout for a cookout, the jamboree is hot in a place called Walcott.

The Iowa 80 Truckstop – you know the one – in Walcott, IA, is host to the 27th Annual Truckers Jamboree this Thursday and Friday, July 13 and 14.

The only things hotter than the weather forecast will be the pork-chop cookout and the musical entertainment.

Headlining Thursday is Leland Martin on the main stage, with the Dani Lynn Howard Band opening the concert at 5 p.m.

Deliverance will play from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, followed by the Super Truck Beauty Contest awards and plaque presentations on the main stage.

Did we mention the pork-chop cookout? You’ll get your fill because the cookout lasts both days from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

There are other things going on, such as 200 exhibitors, a pet show, “Trucker Olympics,” an antique truck display, a blood drive, fireworks and a light show at dusk, and some good old-fashioned chewing the fat with your fellow truckers. And while you’re doing that, go over and visit with Pam and Howard Hart at OOIDA’s tour truck, “The Spirit of the American Trucker.”

Iowa 80 is located at Exit 284 of Intestate 80. Parking and admission are free.
