The Golden State has a little extra shine this week with the 24th Annual Shell Rotella SuperRigs truck beauty contest under way at the Sacramento 49er Travel Plaza – and it's still not too late to enter.
Truckers from across the United States and Canada are competing for more than $10,000 in cash and prizes. A dozen will win bragging rights when they are selected to appear with their trucks in the 2007 Shell Rotella SuperRigs calendar.
Land Line Senior Editor Jami Jones is one of the judges for the show. Other judges are industry professionals who work for major trucking publications and broadcast companies.
Judges score the rigs on exterior appearance, design, detail/finish, originality and workmanship. In total, 18 working trucks will receive awards including Best of Show, Tractor, Tractor/Trailer Combination and Classic categories.
The contest is free to all participants. Judging began Thursday and continues Friday and Saturday. Entrants can register onsite upon arrival and enter the judging line at their convenience. Judging will take place between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Friday, June 23; and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, June 24.
Judging takes approximately 20 minutes and contestants do not need to be present to win. If they must leave to deliver or pick up a load, any prize they are awarded will be shipped to them. The presentation ceremony for the awards is scheduled for 1:30 pm on Saturday, June 24.
Along with the above categories, awards will also be given in specialized categories such as Best Chrome, Best Theme, Best Mural, Best Lights, People's Choice and several others. The Best Lights judging will be held at dusk on Friday evening. The People's Choice award will be voted on throughout the event by all contestants and spectators.
