Indianapolis adding traffic sensors to interstates

The Indiana Department of Transportation is installing a technology that could help relieve traffic backups in metropolitan Indianapolis.

As part of its summer road construction projects, IDOT is installing sensors under the pavement of Interstate 465. The system is already being tested on Interstates 65, 68 and 70, Indianapolis television station WISH-TV reported.

The sensors can detect patterns of slowed traffic on the roadways, and then relay that information to motorists and DOT officials.
