Expect major weekend delays around DC's Woodrow Wilson Bridge

| 6/9/2006

June 9 through 12, Interstate 95 North/Capital Beltway Outer Loop travelers should plan for major delays, as I-95 North traffic is switched onto the new Woodrow Wilson Bridge near Washington, D.C.

This weekend’s shift will complete the first of two traffic switches onto the new bridge. Closures and detours will be in effect from 8 p.m. Friday, June 9, until as late as 5 a.m. Monday, June 12.

According to a press release from officials with the Woodrow Wilson Bridge Project, the maximum 57-hour closure for the new bridge traffic switch is necessary to mill and pave connections to and from the existing Beltway alignment to the new bridge alignment, which is approximately 30 feet to the south.

In addition, motorists are advised that further overnight traffic impacts will occur on Saturday, June 10, at northbound and southbound I-95 (Outer and Inner Loops), at the Maryland 210 interchange, as 425-foot-long steel beams are erected for the new Maryland 210 interchange.
