Public transportation advocates ready to 'Dump the Pump'

If you notice fewer four-wheelers on the road Thursday, June 8, there may be a very good reason.

The American Public Transportation Association is sponsoring “Dump the Pump,” a day dedicated to raising awareness about public transportation and its cost-savings in urban areas.

According to an APTA press release, the event is scheduled from coast to coast, and even involves the support of transportation departments in many states through roadside public service announcements.

The APTA claims that if 10 percent of the American public used mass transportation each day, it would cut our country’s dependence on foreign oil by more than 40 percent.
