New York Assembly supporting trucker work stoppage resolution

| 5/1/2006

Members of the New York Assembly are lending their support to a truck work stoppage, scheduled to take place May 15.

The resolution, which is still being drafted and has not been assigned a number in the Assembly, would also ask for all New York residents to stop using or purchasing fuel for the entire day.

A spokesman for Assemblyman Patrick Manning, R-East Fishkill, the resolution’s author, said 26 Republicans in the state’s Assembly are supporting it.

The spokesman said the resolution began gaining popularity after a local radio station began taking calls asking for ideas to combat high fuel prices, and the trucking industry responded in force with calls and e-mails.
