Willie Nelson can now add an award of a different kind to
the host of musical honors he has accrued during his long career.
On April 18 Nelson was among those honored by Region 9 of
the Environmental Protection Agency at its eighth annual Environmental Awards
Ceremony in San Francisco.
According to an EPA press release, Nelson was honored for
helping open the first biodiesel station in California.
Nelson’s BioWillie brand of biodiesel went on sale in
February at RTC, an alternative fueling station located at Pearson Ford in San Diego.
Wayne Nastri, EPA regional administrator, presented a plaque
to Nelson and said that he and the other honorees “set an example for all of us
to follow,” according to a press release.
Nearly 40 awards were handed out in all to state and local
governments, organizations and individuals in Region 9, which includes California, Arizona, Nevada, Hawaii, Pacific Islands and tribal lands.
