Sign of the times

So, you’re stuck in traffic and you want to know how long it’s going to take to navigate the city loop. One way to satisfy that curiosity and to perhaps find a detour is to watch for a sign of the times.

Tarrant County in the Dallas-Fort Worth area is stepping up an effort to post travel times on more electronic highway signs. The idea is expanding in the Lone Star State and in other areas.

Officials moved recently to nearly double the number of existing signs – 59 – which are in place for construction updates, Amber Alerts and warnings. Now they can also tell you the “travel time around the loop is 10 minutes.”

Houston and San Antonio have boasted success with posting travel-times, according to the Star-Telegram in Fort Worth.

Dallas is currently testing five signs.
