Andy Card resigns as President's chief of staff

| 3/28/2006

Andy Card’s last day as chief of staff for President Bush will be April 14. He’ll be replaced by Budget Director Josh Bolton.

Card has served with Bush since day one. He didn’t publicly state a reason for stepping down, although a number of news sources have reported the senior staff at the White House was simply worn to a frazzle.

But many Republicans have been calling for fresh talent at the White House in the wake of several missteps – including the Dubai ports deal and the administration’s response to Hurricane Katrina.

Truckers may remember Andy Card as secretary of transportation in the early 1990s when random, roadside drug and alcohol testing was being introduced on a pilot basis in four states.
