Trucker seeks change of venue in homicide case

| Friday, March 17, 2006

Attorneys for a trucker who’s charged with negligent homicide in the deaths of 10 people want his trial moved out of Sherman County, TX, which is just north of Dallas.

The lawyers argue that 45-year-old Miroslaw Jozwiak can’t get a fair trial because of “saturation” media publicity about the case. A hearing on the request is scheduled for Monday, March 20.

In September 2004 Jozwiak reportedly swerved into oncoming traffic on Interstate-75.

Five people in a pickup and five more in an SUV died in the collision.

When the truck driver was arrested, the district attorney told Land Line that legal proceedings would require an interpreter who spoke Polish due to the fact that Jozwiak’s English was limited.
