Manuel “Matty” Moroun and his son, Matthew, have acquired the controlling stake in four intermodal logistics firms, according to Crain’s Detroit Business.

The Morouns own 65 percent control of Universal Truckload Services Inc., which recently purchased the firms of Marc Largent Inc., of Los Angeles; Diamond Logistics Inc., of Houston; Assure Intermodal LLC of Memphis, TN; and DiJulio Enterprises Inc., of Seattle.

Control of the trucking logistics firms will now fall under the Universal subsidiary of Mason Dixon Intermodal, Crain’s reported.

The family owns other trucking companies, including CenTra Inc.

The Moroun family is well known for owning and operating the Ambassador Bridge, the busiest North American border crossing between Detroit and the Canadian city of Windsor, Ontario.

Media reports state that the Morouns are eyeing up a site to build a twin bridge to the Ambassador to relieve some of the busy border woes in the Detroit-Windsor area.
