The director of the Illinois State Toll
Highway Authority has announced he is leaving his position for – you guessed it
– a company that works on toll roads.
On Tuesday, Jan. 24, Jack Hartman announced
he is leaving his post to join up with the Rise Group, a Chicago-based
construction firm that has earned more than $250,000 in profits from its work
with the Tollway, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Although Hartman said his purpose at the
company would be to increase the amount of government contract work received,
in the short term, he will actually bring it to a complete halt. Under an
Illinois law prohibiting former high-level officials from leaving their
positions to increase government business in the private sector, all such
companies must wait one year before resuming doing any work for the Tollway, the Tribune reported.
