Code of the road is alive and well

It started out as an ordinary day on the road for OOIDA member Josh Cornett.

Cornett, who hails from Hilger , MT , was hauling a load on Interstate 75 bound for Ocala , FL , in early November. He was coming out of a rest area along the highway when he blew a tire and his rig rolled over on to the side of the road.

From there, things get a bit hazy.

“There’s parts I don’t remember,” Cornett told Land Line. “But he was on his way to a wedding, and he stopped.”

“He” was fellow OOIDA member Kevin Jackson from Altha , FL , and not only did he stop, but he climbed up on top of the truck – which was still in gear and running – and pulled a barely conscious Cornett to safety.

That would have been enough for some people, but Cornett said Jackson stuck around until the Florida Highway Patrol arrived to make sure everything was okay.

“The highway patrol tried to blame it on me,” Cornett said. “But he stuck around and told them what happened.”

Cornett said that, not only did Jackson stay to talk to the police, he made sure Cornett got to the hospital and even called the next day to see how he was doing.
