Two more owners from trucking companies charged in Hired Truck case

Two trucking company owners have been charged in the ongoing federal investigation into Chicago’s Hired Truck program, bringing the total number of individuals charged to 32.

On Friday, Aug. 19, Anthony Affetto, owner of A. Affetto Trucking, and Robert Mangiamele, owner of R&V Trucking LLC, were charged with mail fraud, bribery and lying to the FBI. The pair has been accused of paying bribes and campaign contributions in exchange for work with the city program, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

Both men claimed they never paid bribes to Donald Tomczak, a bagman with the notorious program who has already pleaded guilty to his own charges.

To date, 23 people have been convicted in the investigation.
