Two members of the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association are among the top three finalists in a contest to win a $50,000 Exterior/Interior Truck Makeover.

Jeff Fields of Tully, NY, and Ed Godfrey of Dallas, TX, have been selected by a board of judges that reviewed essays from hundreds of contestants, each explaining why they deserved to have their truck made over. A third finalist, Robert Jones of Lithia Springs, GA, was also chosen.

Godfrey said he was surprised to find out his essay – actually a 50-word poem in which the first letter of each line spelled out Castrol – made the final cut.

“I can’t believe it,” he said. “I was just kind of shocked. My girlfriend was the one that wanted to enter the contest.”

The winner of The Big Honkin’ Truck Makeover contest, which is sponsored by Castrol Tection Ultra, Sirius Satellite Radio and Midnight Trucking, will be announced at the Great American Trucking Show in Dallas on Aug. 27. Attendees will be asked to vote for the final winner at the Castrol booth during the show.
