Town may ban truck parking at home

The City Council of Kent, WA, is looking at a change in city zoning codes that could bar truckers from parking their rigs in their own driveways.

The King City Journal reported that the council has received “ongoing complaints” about commercial trucks parked at homes. This time, however, the complaints aren’t the usual ones about the noise or diesel fumes.

“Neighbors complain they are an eyesore,” Charlene Anderson, manager of the city’s planning services, told the Journal.

The proposed ordinance would specifically ban commercial vehicles longer than 19 feet from parking in driveways. The proposed ban does not include recreational vehicles, boats on trailers or travel trailers longer than 19 feet.

The city already has an ordinance banning trucks from parking on residential streets.
