What do you get in exchange for outrageously pricey toll roads? A few cents off a microwaveable burrito, if you live in New York.
After raising toll prices by 25 percent for passenger vehicles and more than 35 percent for most trucks, the New York State Thruway Authority is making some small concessions with its concessions. In exchange for cheaper rent, the Authority is asking HMS Host – the company that operates 16 travel plazas along the roadway – to lower the prices of its food to lure drivers back on to the toll road.
The Thruway Authority is hoping to have the new 10-year contract and lower prices in effect by Oct.1, the Albany Times-Union reported. The agreement will not cover food costs in the other 11 travel plazas along the roadway, which are operated by McDonald's.
