Florida authorities arrested a Miami woman on charges of
selling fraudulent liability insurance certificates to local truckers. The
woman’s husband was also implicated in the crime and is expected to surrender
to authorities this week.
According to the Florida Department of Financial Services,
Rosa Badjor was arrested after she was discovered paying an accident claim
without a license. The state revoked the couple’s licenses several years ago
following forgery charges.
An investigation by the department’s Division of Insurance
Fraud found that the Badjors sold fake insurance policies to truckers at
anywhere from $500 to $1,500 apiece, then pocketed the money.
The certificates purported to be from Canal Insurance, one
of the largest insurers of trucks in the country, but the couple was not
licensed to sell policies from Canal or any other company.
